Types of Football Field Heating Systems

For decades, stadiums have relied on large pipes buried underground to heat football fields. In the 1970s, these systems gained popularity, but they were expensive and had several drawbacks. In addition to freezing up the water in the pipes, some systems used antifreeze to prevent them from freezing over. Today, most fields are heated with a combination of hot water and glycol, which helps keep the turf warm. A good heating system should not take more than a few days to heat a football field.

The Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia uses a complex system to keep the field warm. This system is more efficient than traditional systems because it is designed to heat only the zones that need it. Unlike traditional heating systems, these electric systems also defrost areas quickly, and can be controlled from any type of device. Its controls allow the stadium to operate at a much lower cost than traditional heating systems. Despite the complexity, electric heating systems are safe and effective, keeping the entire field warm.

The DESSO heating system is another type of Football field heating system. The DESSO heating system has been used at many stadiums, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Old Trafford, and Emirates. The DESSO system uses 6-7 tons of plastic propylene fibre, which makes up around three percent of the surface of the pitch. It is buried beneath the surface of the pitch, where it provides support to the pitch.

The Lambeau system was the first stadium to install a hydronic heating system. It was installed in the late 90s. The AMS-A-500 boilers in the Lambeau heating system were the first to use this method, and served as a prototype for other cold weather stadiums. With the use of hydronic heaters, the water from the boiler can be pumped out through the subsurface to keep the field from freezing.

One of the biggest advantages of using a football field heating system is the cost savings. Despite the benefits of an electrical heating system, it is still significantly more expensive than other forms of heating systems. Therefore, it may be worth considering an electrical system in the case of a football field. Its installation will save the team money, and will help the field stay in good condition all year long. Aside from that, an electric system will save the turf from freezing weather.

The Hydronic heating system installed in the Arrowhead Stadium in Green Bay keeps the entire field warm. The system is installed above the seating areas and also benefits the spectators. This type of heating system ensures that the players are safe and that the field does not freeze. The hydronic heat from the boilers located underneath the bleachers ensures that the gridiron remains clear, so that the hashmarks can be seen in a snowy season.
