Nastaran attended a government-run center and a private one. She had been incarcerated for a financial misdemeanor and had been in rehab centers for several years. Despite her addiction, she remained in various centers, some voluntarily while others under court mandate. "Madar" is located in Malard and has been in operation for over four years. Its director, however, had ignored his complaints about abuse and neglect and he was ultimately incarcerated.

The journalist interviewed 13 people, including two former drug addicts and two experts. Nine of them are Iranians. Four of them were Iranian-based experts or informed persons. All names are fictitious. One of the interviewees, psychologist Solmaz Eskandarzadeh, has agreed to use her real name. Other interviewees include a general physician named Dr. Zakaria and a substance abuse treatment fellow named Dr. Ardalan.
