In 1997, Alcatel-Lucent sold a 49% stake in Euronews to British news broadcaster ITN, who supplied content to the channel along with its remaining shareholders. The channel switched from analogue to digital transmission in 1999 and added a Portuguese audio track and in 2001, VGTRK joined as a major shareholder. In 2011, Euronews launched a six-hour breaking news show, Euronews Now, which was hosted by Tokunbo Salako.
